For some years now I have been working with black monotype ink on glass. I like the trace of the brush on the smooth and very resistant surface of the support. When the ink is completely dry, I scrape off the ink mass to define the exact shape of my patterns. Like a sculptor who cuts a coarse shape to obtain the desired proportions, I scrape the ink off with a dry point. I like this physical resistance of the tool on the support, this subtraction that gradually gives life to the mass and then to the details. The picture reveals itself and slowly appears.
My work is often defined in opposites and complementary elements: from shadow (ink) to light (transparency of glass). Curves that respond to straight lines. Liquid material on a hard and impermeable support. A framed object that does not need to be hung. A black drawing that plays with transparency, which tends to elude rather than imposing itself.
I like the idea that my monotypes live their lives among other objects. That they enter into dialogue with each other. A drawing hanging on the wall no longer catches one's eye after a few weeks, while my monotypes live their lives and constantly reinvent themselves moved from the table to the bookshelf, from the bedroom to the kitchen.
